About 2ndOcean
Daily bilingual (English / Japanese) sector analysis of the US stock market.
What 2ndOcean Is
2ndOcean is an independent market-analysis site that groups the US stock market into 24 sectors and tracks how they move each trading day. Rather than recommending individual stocks, it focuses on making the flow of the market visible — which sectors money is rotating into, and which it is rotating out of. Every page is published in both English and Japanese.
Methodology
We track 24 sectors across 68 tickers. Our primary timeframe is the 50-day window (roughly two and a half months of trading days), which we find well suited to capturing intermediate-term trends. From daily closing prices we compute each sector's average change, along with market breadth — the percentage of tracked tickers trading above their 20-day and 50-day moving averages. All of these figures are computed mechanically and algorithmically.
Data Sources
- Price data: daily closes from Yahoo Finance (via the yfinance library)
- Economic data: FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data) time series
- Market news: summaries of publicly available financial video coverage
Update Cadence
The site updates automatically on weekdays after the US market close (around 22:30 UTC). Once the trading day's data is final, that day's pages are generated.
Editorial Method
The data tables, alerts, and metrics are all produced algorithmically. The narrative sections are LLM-assisted: they are generated from the already-computed data. Headlines and market summaries are derived from that computed data and from market-news context — not from independent reporting or forecasting.
The Hypothetical Portfolio is a simulation intended to illustrate our approach. It does not represent real trading, holdings, or performance.
